About TimberBay
Kaden Springer and Isaac Cook first met in 2013 and quickly became close friends, bonding over their shared love for animals and nature. After 5 years of dating and traveling the world together, Isaac and Kaden got married in the fall of 2021. Their journeys into the world of purebred dogs started at various different stages;
Kaden (He/Him), originally from New Brunswick, grew up surrounded by a variety of dogs, including mixes, dachshunds, and a doberman, developing a strong passion for dog training. He fondly recalls attending the Moncton Kennel Club shows as a child and earned his pet grooming certificate in 2017. Today, Kaden channels his energy into showing dogs, teaching agility classes under the name Jump It Canine Agility, and occasionally grooming dogs—while also balancing a full-time career.
Isaac (They/He), a Nova Scotia native, grew up with cats but has always had a deep admiration for the purebred dog world. Often affectionately called the TimberBay ‘Bucket B*tch,’ Isaac is the glue that keeps the team together, ensuring everyone is in the right ring on time, water bowls are full, and Kaden has his coffee during those early mornings. Since 2022, Isaac has sat on the Finnish Lapphund Club of Canada (FLCC) Board of Directors as the Atlantic Region Director & Chair of the Social Media and Promotions Committee and is passionate about genetics, pedigrees, dog history and much more. In 2026, Isaac will chair the Finnish Lapphund Club of Canada specialty show in Moncton, New Brunswick.
Once moved to Nova Scotia in 2018, Kaden felt a deep longing for a canine companion. After discussing their ideal breeds, Isaac and Kaden narrowed their search down to either a Finnish Lapphund or a Keeshond. Considering their small downtown apartment, and uncertainty about embracing the herding dog lifestyle quite yet- they ultimately decided on a Keeshond and welcomed Aspen into their lives. Together, the trio made Halifax their home, embarking on many adventures together, including attending numerous agility trials.
Although Isaac didn’t grow up with dogs in the same way Kaden did, he distinctly remembers falling in love with Finnish Lapphunds after seeing photos of them online (and his childhood bed was always decorated with spitzy stuffed animals). But due to their rarity, particularly in Atlantic Canada, he never had the chance to meet one. Fate smiled on them when, after reaching out to Manon Brisebois of MapleMyst in Ontario, they learned that two Finnish Lapphunds were planning to visit Nova Scotia that summer. Without hesitation, Kaden and Isaac seized the opportunity and met Elo and Vienna (Timber’s dam). It was love at first sight.
In 2021 Isaac and Kaden welcomed Timber (MapleMyst’s Chasing Waves in Fundy) into their family, and offically began their journey into the wonderous world of lapphunds. Their decision to develop a breeding program was announced in July of 2024;
“We’ve been asked many many times over the past 3+ years if we intend to breed, and it’s always been replied with “maybe when we’re older…” but there is truly no time like the present and we certainly are not getting any younger.” Said Isaac in an announcement post. “Our decision to be breeders is not something we take lightly- and we still uphold the sentiments that we will always prioritized the health, and well being of our dogs (and the dogs we contribute to bringing into this world) above any ribbon or achievement we’ve been able to obtain. Our goal from the get go was always to ensure we are contributing to preserving and bettering the breed I have loved for over a decade, and I cannot put into words how thankful we are to be surronded by the best breeders who exemplify what we aim to be.“
The TimberBay name was formed in 2024 named after our first Finnish Lapphund, ‘Timber’ who not only sparked our passion for Finnish Lapphunds but also continues to teach us great lessons in patience, love and kindness and ‘Bay’ in relation to the Bay of Fundy, where we call home.
